The tragic scene after the crash of the helicopter carrying the Chief of General Staff of India


On December 8, the Indian Air Force announced that its Mi-17V5 helicopter carrying Chief of the General Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife and many officials had an accident near Coonoor city, Tamil Nadu state in the south of this country. The helicopter was on its way from Sulur Air Force Base to a military school in the town of Wellington when it crashed.

The Times of India newspaper quoted sources as saying the helicopter was carrying 14 people and four bodies were found at the scene. According to sources, General Rawat (63 years old) was taken to the hospital for treatment.

At least six ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene and several other injured people were taken to hospital in critical condition. The deceased have not yet been identified. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the helicopter crash.
