Currently, there is a fine for linking PAN card and Aadhaar card. 1000 should be paid for this. According to a press release issued by the government, from July 1, 2023, the PAN card of people who do not link their Aadhaar card will become inactive and such people will not get any refund. In such cases, PAN can be used again within 30 days after paying a fee of Rs 1,000.
Way to know if Aadhaar and PAN are linked
The government is also providing facility to people who don’t remember if PAN card and Aadhaar card are linked to check it. This can be done online and via SMS. Let’s see how to do it online
- Go to https://uidai.gov.in/
- Click on “Aadhaar Services” and click on “Aadhaar Linking Status” option
- Enter 12 digit Aadhaar number and PAN card number
- Select the Get Linking Status option
- If your Aadhaar and PAN are linked, it will be written and shown
- You can also check it through the website https://www.nsdl.com/
Know through SMS
Go to the message app in the form and type UIDPAN (space) your 12 digit Aadhaar number (space) 10 digit PAN number. Send SMS to 567678 or 56161 If your PAN is linked with your Aadhaar, you will get a message reply. If it is not linked, it will also be known through the message.
PAN card and Aadhaar can be linked online
- Access the Income Tax e-filing portal at incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
- Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option
- Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number and Aadhaar provided name and submit
- Select the payment option
- You will also receive an OTP to your registered mobile number
- Enter this OTP and your PAN and Aadhaar will be linked
- Once linked you will get a message about this on the screen
Can be linked via SMS
People who do not have internet connectivity can also link Aadhaar card and PAN card through SMS by going to the message app on your phone and typing UIDPAN (space) 12 digit Aadhaar number (space) 10 digit PAN number and send it to 567678 or 56161. You will receive the linked information as a reply message.
