If you are regular players of Japanese video games, you will undoubtedly be familiar with Suda51, Goichi Suda is his real name, like Swery65. The duo between creative and studio is responsible for bizarre films such as Lollipop Chainsaw, Deadly Premonition or No More Heroes; and in the case of Suda, he was not going to sit idly by without playing more games. Today he has presented for the first time Hotel Barcelonaa highly anticipated project and, to make matters worse, until recently it was smoke.
The project in question dates back to 2019, when Suda51 and Swery65 announced a joint collaboration for a horror video game. The so-called Hotel Barcelona, which already had a name without even certainty that it would ever go on sale, was going to be strongly inspired by David Lynch and his Twin Peaks, but such was the silence around the game that it was thought that it did not exist.
A cancellation that would have occurred silently, according to some players, and that today has shown them how wrong they were. Hotel Barcelona, which by the way, does not have nothing to see with the catalan capitalhas shown its claws today with its first trailer crowned by a launch window: available in 2024for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Of course, it is quite difficult to explain what it is about, and this preview is one of the strangest things you are going to see today; and without a doubt the strangest thing of the entire Tokyo Game Show 2023 so far. Hotel Barcelona is, as defined by the creative duo, a game of “2.5D actionthat parodyat slasher movies“, with many enemies inspired by horror movies and some other interesting mechanics.
Far from those having caught our attention Aliensor the futuristic sharks and physically improved, Suda51 and Swery65 provide originalityby incorporating a mechanicsof saved game and rebootvery curious. Thanks to him we will see our other selves, that is, those from other games, and these will help us overcome the challenges.
At the moment, and as we have mentioned, Hotel Barcelona does not have a release date beyond a hopeful “2024” to close its first trailer. However, this would not be Suda51’s last game, but it would be the one that cost him the most. There is a rumor on RRSS of a remake of that Lollipop Chainsaw from 2012.
