On December 16, the BBC reported that during the auction of fundraising products for the Iuventas Foundation, a charity organization specializing in consulting and supporting mental health for teenagers in Oxfordshire district (UK), an egg shaped like Rarely found a buyer for £200.
Previously, the egg belonged to Mr. Ed Pownell, from Berkshire county (bordering Oxfordshire). Mr Pownell bought it for £150, then donated it to the Iuventas Foundation. At first, the charity thought this was a joke but then auctioned it off, not thinking the egg would fetch such a high price.
Ms. Roz Rapp, representative of the Iuventas Foundation, expressed her joy at selling the egg. “This means we can continue what we are doing,” she said. Ms. Rapp added that this special egg was one of the items auctioned for charity and the total amount raised was 5,000 pounds (about 161 million VND).
The special thing about the egg is that it is spherical in shape, different from regular eggs that are oval in shape and have two unbalanced ends. Mr. David Miller, working for Thomson Roddick Callan Auction Company, which previously organized the auction of the above egg, said that such spherical eggs are considered super rare and “only one in a billion.” ”.
This rare egg was first discovered by a woman when she found it in a carton of eggs purchased from a local supermarket in the town of Ayr, Scotland. Mr Pownell said paying for the egg in the first place and donating it was “well spent”.
Ms. Roz Rapp emphasized: “The funds raised will help young people 13 – 25 years old who are struggling with mental health issues. It will help us reach more young people who are need support or have to wait for a long time”.
