The rain is heavy; Orange alert in six districts on Tuesday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Met office has warned of heavy rains in the state. Extreme levels of rainfall are expected until October 15. On Tuesday, orange alert was declared in six districts and yellow alert in seven districts.

Orange alert has been declared in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. Yellow alert has been issued in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

The announcement of the Orange and Yellow Alerts is as follows-

Orange alert

Tuesday (12.10.2021): Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki
Wednesday (13.10.2021): Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram
Thursday (14.10.2021): Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Malappuram
Friday (15.10.2021): Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad

Yellow Alert

Tuesday (12.10.2021): Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
Wednesday (13.10.2021): Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
Thursday (14.10.2021): Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
Friday (15.10.2021): Ernakulam, Idukki and Kannur

As the rains continue in various places, people in low lying areas, river banks, landslide prone areas and hilly areas should be cautious.

Strong winds are expected along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep and along the coasts of South Bengal, Kanyakumari and Maldives on Thursday and Friday. Winds are forecast to reach 40-50 km per hour. The Central Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds of 40-50 kmph in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea on Tuesday and Wednesday.
