The Philippines Senate on March 17 announced that it would officially investigate the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, which is currently being detained in the Netherlands to wait for trials to accuse the criminal commission against humanity.

“As president of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, I am calling for an urgent investigation for the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, a deep division of the country,” said Imee Marcos.
According to her, the investigation was a must to determine whether the arrest was in accordance with the legal process and whether Duterte’s rights were protected. “Our sovereignty and legal process must be priority,” said Imee Marcos.
The Philippine Senate will open a hearing on March 20 and invite police leaders and government officials to provide evidence.
Mr. Duterte was arrested at Manila Airport on March 11 after returning from Hong Kong. Shortly thereafter, he was taken to the Netherlands to hand over to ICC. Mrs. Imee Marcos soon thought that the incident could only lead to trouble.
Duterte was accused of relating the bloody anti -drug campaign under his leadership term. Regarding the trial, veteran lawyer Nicholas Kaufman (British-Israel) was chosen to join the Duterte’s defense team.
