The museum complex of Sultan Bayezid II in the Turkish province of Edirne was visited by 300 thousand people in three years.
The complex contains both social and religious objects (mosque, hospital and other architectural structures), reflecting an understanding of the social structure of the Ottoman period.
Three years ago, employees of Trakya University organized the Imaret Museum (a charitable institution usually opened at mosques, where free meals are provided to those in need) in the dining room of the complex.
The museum, which takes visitors on a historical journey with wax statues and old kitchen utensils, has been attracting attention since the day it opened.
The museum, with the support of benefactors, offers visitors a variety of treats from the Ottoman period six days a week. The museum also maintains the tradition of organizing iftars (evening meals for Muslims) during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In a conversation with Anadolu, museum director Ruhi Pehlivandzhik said that the Health Museum and the Imaret Museum, located in the complex of Sultan Bayezid II, have received a large number of awards.
According to him, the Imaret Museum is visited by thousands of local and foreign tourists, as it reflects the flavor of Ottoman traditions, and in particular, caring for those in need.
“Our museum was opened 3 years ago with the support of the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Emine Erdogan, and the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly of that period, Mustafa Sentop. Since its opening, the first and only Imaret museum has attracted the attention of visitors,” said the director
