The Day of Remembrance of Islam Karimov is being held in Uzbekistan.
The memory of the first president of Uzbekistan is honored in the country annually on September 2 in accordance with the decree of the current head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
On this day, Uzbeks pay tribute to the memory of the first president.
On Thursday, Mirziyoyev visited the Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex. He laid flowers at the foot of the monument to the first president and honored his memory, the press service of the head of the Uzbek state reports.
The day before, at a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Islam Karimov, having proclaimed the independence of Uzbekistan, headed the state in the most difficult and difficult period of its history.
Flowers to the monument were also laid by representatives of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament), the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ministries and departments, as well as the public of the capital.
Flower-laying ceremonies were also held at the monuments to Islam Karimov in Samarkand and Karshi.
Islam Abduganievich Karimov, the first president of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ruled the country from the moment it gained independence in 1991 until his death in 2016.
