The family knew that Lakshmana was working in disguise but they kept the matter a secret.
Although locals and others were suspicious, the information that Lakshmana was working in disguise was not released. Meanwhile, a journalist from Hunsur investigated Lakshmana and lodged a complaint with the authorities. After Lakshmana failed to produce the original documents, the Periyapatna police registered a case and started an investigation. Lakshmana was taken into police custody and produced in court after a detailed investigation revealed that he was in disguise.
Lakshmana was remanded in custody, Block Education Office SP Nagaraj said. In 2019, a complaint was lodged with the Department of Education seeking an inquiry into the teacher. Following the direction of the education department, the tehsildar conducted an inquiry but the teacher’s family did not co-operate.
