The Olympic Games are just around the corner, they will begin on July 26 in Paris. As has become tradition, the different delegations have been presenting the uniforms that their athletes will wear throughout the competition. The proposals are very different. Some countries, such as Italy and France, have taken the opportunity to take advantage of the great fashion design potential they boast. Other delegations, such as Spain, have presented more practical proposals that are far from design. We review the most interesting proposals:
Italy
Behind the uniform that the Italian athletes will wear is one of the greatest names in the history of fashion. None more nor less than Giorgio Armani. It is a set of elegant and minimalist garments with navy blue as the main protagonist of the proposal. On the sweatshirts, the word Italy in large white letters steals all the attention.
France
Le coqs sportif has designed a uniform adapted to both Olympic and Paralympic athletes that wants to reflect the essence of the culture and love for sport of the host country: France. T-shirts and sweatshirts are already a bestseller.
Spain
The Spanish kit is the work of the Joma firm. In the words of the sports brand, it is a collection “that fuses tradition with modernity. This style is reflected in high-performance fabrics inspired by the carnation, capturing the essence of Spanish culture with a contemporary touch and with sustainability as the central axis.”
USA
There is no presentation of uniforms without controversy. On this occasion, the United States has come out badly for proposing uniforms that are very low in the groin for athletes and yet long and comfortable for men. Many users have seen in these Nike designs the long shadow of patriarchy.
Japan
The Japanese have not complicated themselves. They have opted for the Asics sports brand, the flagship of the Japanese country. Its proposal is minimalist and simple. Very little artifice so that all the attention goes to the achievements of the athletes.
United Kingdom
The English have opted for a brand that says a lot about English design and elegance: Ben Sherman. Dressed by mods in the 60s, this brand has always been characterized by knowing how to encapsulate the magic of the unique British style. In addition to the colors of the Union Jack, the brand has opted to add flowers to almost all the pieces in the Olympic and Paralympic collection.
Australia
The Australian bet has the signature of the Sports Craft brand and is inspired by and pays tribute to Parisian culture and style. A nod that the Australians wanted to make to Paris, the host city. The skirt of the women’s kit has some similarities with the Spanish one, although it is shorter.
Ethiopia
Adidas has created a uniform for Ethiopian athletes that has received very good reviews for its current and modern design. With him we will see the best runners in the world parade. The cotton fabric, the colors of the country and the slightly shorter than usual sweatshirt remind us that this year’s games will indeed be held in 2024.
