The 10th session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TURKPA) was held in the spiritual capital of the Turkic world – the city of Turkestan in the south of Kazakhstan.
Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Shentop, Chairman of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Talant Mamytov, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Hungary as well as heads of international organizations and parliamentary delegations.
The meeting began with reading out the greetings of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
Then the heads of parliaments and members of the delegations observed a minute of silence in memory of the Azerbaijani martyrs who died in the 44-day war for the liberation of Karabakh.
In his opening speech, Nurlan Nigmatulin expressed satisfaction with the fact that the 10th session of the General Assembly of TURKPA is being held in Turkestan, which is known as the spiritual capital of the entire Turkic world.
Noting that Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan celebrated the 30th anniversary of their independence this year, Nigmatulin recalled that Turkey was the first country to recognize their independence.
According to him, Kazakhstan, as the chairman of TURKPA, will focus on increasing the number of countries participating in the assembly, as well as on activities aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of education and culture within the TURKPA.
In addition, Nigmatulin proposed to launch the broadcasting of the Turkestan 24 television channel in all Turkic-speaking countries.
At the end of the meeting, the Turkestan Declaration of the 10th General Assembly of the TurkPA was adopted.
It was decided to hold the 11th session of the GA TURKPA in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek.
