Texas teen who was the subject of an Amber Alert in September charged with capital murder for the death of a man he allegedly met online.
Last August, Arturo Peña, a 21-year-old young man, was found dead in his car with a gunshot wound to the chest after meeting Natalie Navarro, 17 years old.
Police in Garland, Texas, determined that It was a homicide and that the victim had been murdered two days before, on August 27.
Peña had been reported missing by his family, who created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his funeral. The police investigation revealed that Peña had met Navarro online, with whom he had met in person two weeks before the murder.
The police stated that Navarro had the intention of robbing him with the help of another man, Yordy Martínez, 21 years old., whom I had also contacted online. The suspects’ plan was to set a trap for Peña and shoot him to keep her belongings.
Navarro told police he had only spoken to Martinez once online and had never seen him in person until the night of the crime.
This week, a Dallas County grand jury indicted Navarro on capital murder charges., the most serious charge that can be charged in Texas. The indictment alleges that Navarro “unlawfully and intentionally caused the death” of Peña by shooting him and that he was “in the course of committing and attempting” to rob him.
Navarro was the subject of an Amber Alert in September, when she was believed to be in danger and had been kidnapped by Martínez. However, the police discovered that this was an alibi to cover up Peña’s murder and that Navarro had acted voluntarily.
Meanwhile, Martínez continues to be sought by authorities as an accomplice to the homicide. Therefore, police have asked anyone with information about his whereabouts or the case to contact the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840.
