The Indian team has suffered a major setback before the Champions Trophy, as the Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been dropped from the team. Instead of Bumrah, young Paer Harshit Rana has been given a chance in the team, as well as Varun Chakraborty’s entry in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
In fact, BCCI tweeted late on February 11 and informed that Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to injury. For the tournament starting on February 19, all teams had to send their final squad to the ICC by 11 February. But Bumrah could not recover from his injury till the deadline.
The Selection Committee has included Harshit Rana in the team in place of Bumrah for the ICC Champions Trophy starting on February 19 in Pakistan. The selectors have also included Varun Chakraborty in the team, he will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially included in the declared team. Under the Hybrid Model Agreement, India will play all its matches of the tournament in Dubai.
Harshit Rana, a young pacer who made his ODI debut against England, has been made a replacement of Jaspreet Bumrah. Taking advantage of the opportunity, everyone was impressed in their first match. On the other hand, Varun Chakraborty has also been included in the team who will replace spinner Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially placed in the temporary team.
NCA says that Bumrah’s medical report is fine, but he is not bowling. The officer also confirmed that Bumrah’s scan report was fine, but NCA chief Nitin Patel left the final decision on Agarkar as Bumrah was not tested in the event of the match. The report sent by NCA chief Nitin Patel clearly stated that he has completed his rehabilitation and the scan report seems to be fine, but it cannot be concluded that he will fit for bowling until the tournament starts. Or not. So the selectors did not take any risk.
