The Deimos Moon is surrounded by Mars’s dust
While flying across Mars, the Hera spacecraft was able to use three image equipment on the ship to take photos of the Mars Moon Deimos, according to the CNN radio, the notice from ESA.
Since its launch on October 7, 2024, the Hera spacecraft of the European Space Agency (ESA) on the way to the location of the planet Dimorphos to collect data.
In 2022, the Dart spacecraft of the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) realized the first mission of human trajectory intervention by Dimorphos by physical impact. And the mission of the Hera ship is to record new changes of a planet with the purpose of understanding more about the way of deviating the flight route of the asteroids to use for the future.
At the time of photographing the Moon Moon of Mars, the Hera ship is about 177 km from Dimorphos.
As a smaller moon of Mars, Deimos has a diameter of 13 km, while the larger moon is a diameter of 22.5 km. Deimos is about 24,140 km from the red planet. Previously, Earth scientists were skeptical Deimos was probably a planet, not the moon.
At the time of photography, ESA’s spacecraft is about 1,000 km from the Deimos Moon. ESA shows that the images are allowed to analyze the mineral composition as well as the surface temperature of the object. These characteristics will help scientists understand more about the Moon of Mars.
ESA also said the information collected will be used for planning to explore the Mars Moon by 2026.
This mission marks the cooperation between ESA, NASA, the French and German space agency, with the goal of measuring the two moons of Mars and landing on Phobos to collect samples to bring back the earth to analyze.
