Jonathan Khemdee is in the best shape, ready for the return match
In the first leg of the final at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho), the Vietnamese team defeated Thailand 2-1. After 16 years (since AFF Cup 2008), the Vietnamese team defeated Thailand in an official match. At the same time, this is also the first time Thailand has failed on Vietnam’s field since the 1998 Tiger Cup (the tournament is the predecessor of the AFF Cup). Notably, in the first leg of the final, Jonathan Khemdee was one of the players not used by coach Masatada Ishii. According to Thai Rath channel, the defender born in 2002 suffered a jaw injury after the semi-final against the Philippines and is still not in the best shape.
In recent training sessions, Jonathan Khemdee has returned to practice and successfully completed the coaching staff’s lesson plans. It is expected that in the second leg of the final, Jonathan Khemdee will likely start, taking the place of Chalermsak Aukkee – who continuously made mistakes in the match on January 2.
Highlight Vietnam 2-1 Thailand: Final first leg of ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024
“After going through a long journey from Vietnam to the hotel, all Thai players are now in very good shape. We have time to rest and recover our bodies. And today, Thailand continues to have another training session. I believe everyone is ready for tomorrow’s match.
For me personally, my physical condition is improving. The injury to his teeth and jaw is now stable. I’m ready and very excited to participate in the second leg of the final,” the famous Thai player shared about his condition as well as his teammates.
In the first leg match, striker Xuan Son of the Vietnamese team caused many difficulties for the Thai defense. Xuan Son played highest in the Vietnamese team’s attack and had a double goal in minutes 59 and 73. In the second leg of the final, Xuan Son is at full strength and is expected to still play from the start.
Thailand values the entire opposing team
When asked about accompanying Xuan Son, Jonathan Khemdee said that Thailand does not have any specific plans. He expressed: “I am not focused on locking down any special Vietnamese individuals. They are a strong team, with many quality players, so the Thai team must focus on overcoming team play. The evidence is that in the second half of the first leg, the Vietnamese team replaced some players and their playing style became stronger.”
Jonathan Khemdee continued to emphasize his determination to defeat the Vietnamese team at Rajamangala Stadium to win the AFF Cup for the third consecutive time: “If anyone knows me, they all understand that I am a very confident person. I believe in myself to do well tomorrow and win the championship with the Thai team. I want to thank all the fans who bought tickets and I think the match will take place in a very wonderful atmosphere.”
