Sunrisers out of contention, this player will no longer be seen in the IPL; A match like a test match!

Punjab Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in one of the most tiring matches of the current IPL season. Punjab won the toss and elected to bat. The match was played on a substandard pitch of a T20 match and was a disappointment to the fans. With the win, Punjab has activated their play-off hopes.

The Punjab spinners, who had largely failed to bat, dominated the game. Chris Gayle (14), Aiden Markram (27) and Harpreet Brar (18) put on 125 for the team. Punjab were able to get back in the match only because their opponents were Hyderabad. Ravi Bishnoi took 3 wickets along with Mohammad Shami who took 2 wickets.

All the Sunrisers have to do is blame the irresponsibility of the batsmen. David Warner was out in the first over. Only Wriddhiman Saha (31) and Jason Holder (47) did better. Had the holder been supported in the final overs, the outcome of the match would have been different. The defeat paved the way for Hyderabad to reach the play-offs.

Punjab will not be able to reach the play-offs unless the top batsmen play consistently. Nicholas Pooran’s form is a headache for the team. Deepak Hooda is also not doing well. At the same time, the fighting spirit shown by Harpreet Brar at the tail end will be strong in the coming matches as well. The arrival of Nathan Ellis also adds to the team’s all-round strength. It is also comforting that Mohammad Shami has regained form in the UAE edition.

Sunrisers aims to make a big splash next season. Despite having a team of excellent bowlers, batting errors are a setback for the team. Many of the midfield players will be out. Manish Pandey may not be retained by the team. Kedar Jadhav is almost certain to play in his last IPL. Johnny Bairstow’s omission from the UAE edition also contributed to the defeat.
