Sudan: Thousands Demonstrate Against “Army Measures”

AA / Khartoum

Thousands of Sudanese took part this Saturday in massive demonstrations in several neighborhoods of the capital, Khartoum, to demand “civilian rule” and express their opposition to the military coup.

The correspondent of the Anadolu Agency indicated that the demonstrations took place in Khartoum and in the city of Omdurman (west of the capital), in protest against the decisions of the army commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. .

Since Monday, Khartoum has been the scene of a wave of arrests targeting ministers in the current government and leaders of the Forces for Freedom and Change (the civilian component of the ruling coalition).

Before the measures of October 25, Sudan began, since August 21, 2019, a transition period of 53 months which was to end with the holding of elections in early 2024. Pending the electoral deadline, power was shared between the army, civil forces and armed movements which signed a peace agreement with the government on October 3.
