SRH gave a new role, young Abhishek Sharma took advantage – scored a strong half-century against Chennai

Mumbai: Sunrisers Hyderabad has finally opened its account in the Indian Premier League 2022. On Saturday, the team defeated Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in the match played at DY Patil Stadium. Hyderabad had a target of 155 runs to win, which they achieved with 17 balls to spare. Young opener Abhishek Verma scored 75 runs in 50 balls for the team.

Sunrisers and Chennai Super Kings both teams had not won any match in the tournament before this match. The Hyderabad team won the first match of the season. A lot of questions were being raised about Abhishek Verma opening the innings. There was criticism that when there are specialist openers like Edin Markram and Rahul Tripathi, then what is the need to start with Abhishek Sharma. But Sharma calmed everyone down with his bat today.

Though the target was not very big for Hyderabad but the team needed a strong start which Sharma gave along with captain Kane Williamson. Both added 89 runs for the first wicket. The 21-year-old young player was tried by the Hyderabad team in the lower-middle order last season but this time the franchise has given him a different responsibility.

Abhishek hit five fours and three sixes. Even after Williamson’s dismissal, he held one end. Abhishek led the innings with Rahul Tripathi. Tripathi appeared in a more aggressive role. Tripathi scored an unbeaten 39 off 15 balls. Tripathi hit five fours and two sixes. There was a 56-run partnership between Sharma and Tripathi. This partnership ensured the victory of Hyderabad.
