Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, received the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Ankara, Pavel Vacek, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Ankara, Vasyl Bodnar, at the same time.
Vacek and Bodnar invited Kurtulmuş to the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform to be held in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, on 23-24 October, and talked about Turkey’s contributions to the summit and the international support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the Russia-Ukraine war. He thanked them for their support on the platform.
Kurtulmuş stated that they will attend the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform as Turkey and that they attach importance to the summit.
Stating that the Crimean issue is a sensitive issue for Turkey, Kurtulmuş said, “Our friends and brothers in Crimea actually constitute a part of Turkey’s heartland. We follow the events in Crimea in full detail. We also want to protect the rights and laws of our brothers in Crimea.” “We express our opinions on every platform.” he said.
Reminding that when the issue of annexation of Crimea came to the fore, Turkey was one of the first countries in the world to oppose it, Kurtulmuş said that they always stated on all platforms that the idea of annexing Crimea was not in accordance with international law and that Crimea should be handled within the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“Turkey is in favor of Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity”
Pointing out that Turkey’s position was very clear from the first moment of the Russia-Ukraine war, Kurtulmuş said, “Turkey is in favor of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We express our reaction very strongly about the annexation of other regions belonging to Ukraine, such as the annexation of Crimea.” “We gave it quickly. We have declared to the whole world that these annexations are unacceptable and against international law.” he said.
Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Kurtulmuş, said that Turkey, as a country neighboring Russia and Ukraine and intending to develop its relations with both countries, will mobilize all its strength to both protect Ukraine’s rights and laws and ensure that this war ends as soon as possible. He noted that he did.
Reminding that there are lives lost due to war, Kurtulmuş emphasized that ending this war as soon as possible is one of the points that the international community should take as a basis.
Pointing out that Turkey is the only country that can constantly negotiate with both sides to eliminate the heavy destruction of the war, Kurtulmuş reminded that one of the results of this was the mutual exchange of many prisoners of war and the opening of the Black Sea Grain Corridor.
“It has been observed that there is a need to establish a new system that can ensure peace in the world.”
TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş pointed out that the Russia-Ukraine war also taught the whole world, and said:
“The fact that this war continued with such heavy losses and could not be ended on the axis of a just peace means that the institutions of the world system are no longer functional. The international political architecture in the world, especially the United Nations and the institutions responsible for the security of Europe and the West, has collapsed.” Therefore, it has been observed once again, more than ever, that there is a need to establish a new system that can ensure peace, fairness and justice in the world.
That’s why, as Turkey, we have been saying ‘The world is bigger than five’ on all international platforms for many years. We express our opinion on every platform by saying ‘It is essential to establish a new and equitable system in the world’. I hope that the Crimea Summit to be held in Prague will be an important tool in conveying the difficulties experienced by the Crimean people to the international arena. “At the same time, through this platform, it is an important step in the international arena for the lands annexed by Russia, especially Crimea, to be restored to their original status.”
