Sonia Gandhi alleged that the main agenda of the Modi government is to benefit some capitalists.
Criticizing the Center over the farmers’ protest, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said that for the first time since the independence of the country, such an ‘arrogant’ government has come to power, which is not seeing the pain of the ‘annadatas’. At the same time, he demanded an immediate withdrawal of new agricultural laws unconditionally.
The Congress president said in a statement, ‘Governments that ignore public sentiments in democracy and their leaders cannot govern for long. Now it is very clear that in the face of the ‘tire and pushover’ policy of the current central government, the agitating sons and farmers are not going to kneel.
Sonia said, “There is still time for the Narendra Modi government to leave the arrogance of power and immediately withdraw the three black laws unconditionally and end the protest of the farmers who are dying in cold and rain. This is Rajdharma and also a true tribute to the late farmers.”
He said that the Modi government (at the Center) should remember that the meaning of democracy is to protect the interests of the people and farmers.
He said, “Despite the scorching cold and rain, my mind is also very upset with the countrymen, seeing the condition of the ‘annadatas’ who have been struggling for 39 days in support of their demands on the borders of Delhi.”
He said, “Due to the “government’s apathy”, more than 50 farmers have lost their lives so far. Some (farmers) even took suicide-like steps due to the government’s neglect. But neither the heartless Modi government relented nor Prime Minister or any minister has a word of consolation till today.”
Sonia said, ‘I pay my respects to all the deceased farmers brothers and pray to the Lord to give their families the power to bear this sorrow.’
He said, ‘After independence, this is the first such egoistic government in the country, which does not even see the pain and struggle of the feeders who feed the country.’
He alleged, ‘It seems that ensuring a handful of industrialists and their profits has become the main agenda of this government.’
Significantly, the Congress has demanded the withdrawal of three new agricultural laws, alleging that these black laws will ruin agriculture and farmers. The Congress is also supporting the farmers’ movement against these laws.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting against these laws for more than a month at the borders of Delhi, despite the harsh cold. Most of these farmers are from Punjab and Haryana.
