Turkey plans to use the first domestic attack drone Songar to disarm explosive devices with a laser. The general director of the Turkish company ASİSGUARD Mustafa Baris Duzgun told Anadolu agency about it.
ASİSGUARD’s two developments, the Salgur microdron and the Songar strike drone, were first demonstrated at the 14th IDEF-2019 International Defense Industry Exhibition in Istanbul.
At the end of IDEF-2019, which took place from April 30 to May 3, 2019, the company began active work to improve drones.
According to Duzgyun, the company plans to talk about the new features of the small-sized drone and the achievements in the development of modifications of this system for the 15th IDEF, which will be held on August 17-20 in Istanbul.
Currently, ASİSGUARD, in cooperation with the scientific and technical center TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, is working on the integration of a high-power laser installation into Songar, Duzgün said.
According to him, the project is primarily aimed at meeting the needs of the Turkish police in the field of disposal of explosive devices.
“The company strives to prove that thanks to the right software, changes in the launch system, it is possible to use any platform in a new way, mechanically adapting it to any need. We are confident that this will be useful in practice, ”he said.
Duzgyun said the company plans to export Songar to dozens of countries.
“The process is not easy. We sent up to 100 proposals to different countries. While it is possible to export to two countries. We hope to sign contracts within a year, ”he added.
Songar drones are capable of performing several tasks: determining the affected area, neutralizing the enemy, transmitting images in real time, etc.
Drones can perform missions at a distance of up to 10 kilometers and climb to an altitude of 2,800 meters.
Small-sized UAVs are capable of carrying an ammunition capacity of 200 rounds of 5.56×45 mm caliber. Equipped with an automatic firing system.
