Singapore captain: ‘We did our best but the Vietnamese team is too strong’

Singapore cannot turn the tide

As a guest at Viet Tri Stadium, Hariss Harun is one of the important returns, helping Singapore have the strongest squad. However, the “Lion Island” team could not make a surprise and lost 1-3 to the Vietnamese team, thereby ending their journey in the AFF Cup 2024 with a total loss of 1-5.

After the match, Hariss Harun gave many compliments to the Vietnamese team. Singapore’s captain assessed Vietnam as one of the strongest teams in the tournament and worthy of winning the championship.

Hariss Harun shared: “The Singapore team did their best in both matches. We fought very well and kept trying. Today, Singapore tried to reverse the situation but unfortunately for them. I think the Vietnamese team is a very good team. Although we have tried very hard, the Singaporean team is helpless and deserves to win the championship and we must move forward now can keep up with them.”

Satisfied even though eliminated

At the AFF Cup 2024, the Singapore team does not have the strongest squad. Stars like the Fandi brothers, Jacob Mahler, and Song Ui-young were not present. However, the “Lion Island” team still surprised everyone by finishing second in Group A. Next, in the two AFF Cup semi-finals, Singapore showed progress by always entering the game very well and controlling. The ball is superior to the Vietnamese team. Therefore, although Singapore could not participate in the final match, Hariss Harun assessed that he and his teammates had made great strides.

“AFF Cup 2024 is Singapore’s most obvious progress. We got through a difficult group and throughout the tournament all the players did very well. Despite the high density of matches, Singapore always acknowledges its weaknesses and improves itself to get better day by day. I know everyone has made efforts and going forward, Singapore must perfect many more aspects. Now, the Singapore team will return home. We will have more time to look back on our journey,” Hariss Harun expressed.
