In IPL 2022, the splendid form of young Gujarat batsman Shubman Gill continues. But he went from becoming the second batsman to score a century this season in the league. In the 16th match of the tournament against Punjab Kings, Gill scored 96 runs. Gill has not yet scored a century in T20 cricket. Gill was part of Kolkata Knight Riders till last season in the 2018 Under World Cup’s Player of the Tournament, but was not retained by the franchise before this season.
Gill, who scored a fifty off 29 balls, had a chance to complete the century but he fell victim to Kagiso Rabada in the 19th over. His innings of 59 balls included 11 fours and a six. Gill also got life in the 8th over. His catch was dropped by Odeon Smith on his own ball. After the first blow to Punjab for 32 runs, Shubman Gill made a partnership of 101 runs for the second wicket with Sai Sudarshan.
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 190 for 9 wickets. Liam Livingstone played an explosive innings of 64 runs in 27 balls. Punjab needed 12 runs in the last two balls. Rahul Tewatia hit two consecutive sixes against Odeon Smith to give his team their third consecutive win.
This season of IPL did not start well for Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill. He was dismissed in the first match against Lucknow Super Giants without opening an account. But in the second match against Delhi Capitals, Gill scored 84 runs in 46 balls. This was Gill’s biggest innings in T20 before this match. He played a bigger innings than this in the very next match. No other batsman had even scored a half-century in that match.
