Punjab Kings will face Gujarat Titans (PBKS vs GT) in IPL 2022. Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. Punjab captain Mayank Agarwal returned to the pavilion in the second over. Debuting for the team, Jonny Bairstow’s bat also remained calm, but experienced opener Shikhar Dhawan took charge. However, he could not score runs fast and was dismissed for 35 runs in 30 balls.
The start was not good for Dhawan and two fours went for the boundary with the lower edge of his bat. In the first ball of the 5th over, Dhawan hit a four over mid-off against one of the fastest bowlers in the league, Lockie Ferguson. With this, Dhawan did a big job in T20 cricket. One thousand fours were completed in this format. He is the first batsman from India to do so. The 34-year-old Dhawan played the first T20 match for Delhi in 2007.
This is Dhawan’s 307th T20I match. Earlier, in 306 matches, he had scored 8867 runs at an average of 32.47. After Dhawan, Virat Kohli’s number comes in the most T20 fours for India. Kohli has scored 10312 runs in 329 matches, but he has hit only 917 fours so far. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is at number three in the list of Indian players with 875 fours.
Overall, Dhawan is the 5th batsman to hit 1000 fours in T20Is. Chris Gayle, the most successful batsman of this format, has hit 1132 fours. Out of England team opener Alex Hales has 1054 fours. Held takes part in T20 leagues around the world. Australia’s David Warner has 1005 and captain Aaron Finch has 1004 fours. Both Warner and Finch have played more matches than Warner.
