With Demi Lovato screaming at the top of her lungs, Lil Nas X singing each of the songs and Taylor Swift dancing wildly with her friends… All this caused Shakira during his impressive performance in the MTV Video Music Awards 2023.
The Colombian paralyzed the audience with a 10-minute show that included a journey through several of her greatest hits and mixed partying, debauchery, sensuality and excitement.
Shakira, who tonight received the Video Vanguardia Award, appeared on stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, inside a square hallway where he dazzled with his contortions, as if he were inside a box.
Immediately afterwards, seven dancers joined her to dance to the rhythm of “Loba” and “Te Felicito”, where they recreated the peculiar dance that went viral on TikTok several months ago.
During “TQG,” a song she released with Karol G, the Barranquilla native took her best reggaeton steps and demonstrated how she “twerks.” She was imitated, in the audience, by Saweetie, Billy Porter and Megan Thee Stallion.
Shakira’s journey into her musical past began with “Objection (Tango),” where she shook her hips to the rhythm of her traditional batucada, which also played during “Whenever, Wherever.”
In this last song, the Colombian singer-songwriter showed off her talent behind the guitar, something that visibly impressed Taylor Swift, who also sang each of her Latin colleague’s songs..
For a small excerpt from “Ojos Así”, Shakira stood at the center of the stage to receive a burst of water from the heavens, appearing to be rain, to end up completely wet in “Hips Don’t Lie”.
The final part of his performance was “Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, the song with which he broke listening records this year alongside Bzrp. During this segment, He danced with his fans, moved his hips a little more and threw himself into the audience without fear.
His body “surfed” throughout the audience; comedian Tiffany Haddish managed to shake her hand during this tour, while Selena Gómez watched her presentation in amazement. Once in the middle of the crowd, Shakira stood on a small platform that raised her several meters high. Her set was over, and how!
