Settlers evacuate ‘Avitar’ outpost in northern West Bank

AA / Jerusalem

Settlers agreed to evacuate the outpost from ‘Avitar’ settlement in the northern West Bank on Friday as part of an agreement reached with the Israeli government led by Naftali Bennett, according to reports. Hebrew media.

Private Hebrew Channel 12 reported that the last vehicles left the “Avitar” outpost at around 4:00 p.m. Jerusalem time (1:00 p.m. GMT).

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation said: “A compromise has been signed regarding the evacuation of the Avitar settlement outpost, whereby residents will leave the area. As for the houses, they will remain intact, empty and closed. , with a constant presence of the Israeli army on the spot “.

Channel 12 also reported that settlers left the outpost intermittently so that the evacuation was not presented as a “Palestinian victory” in the media.

The Israeli army had decided in early June to demolish the outpost, because it was built on private Palestinian land, and without authorization.
The settlers established this outpost in early May 2021, south of Nablus in the northern West Bank, at a site called “Jabal Sabih”.

As a result, the Palestinian owners of the land on which the colonial outpost is located staged protests to demand the evacuation of the settlers.
During these protests, 4 Palestinians were killed by Israeli army bullets and hundreds more were injured.
