SEBI Investor Certification Examination: Before entering the share market, it is important for investors to be aware of the market risk. SEBI has prepared an Investor Certification Examination program in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) to explain the intricacies of the stock market and savings-investment to new investors. SEBI’s Investor Certification Examination is a free online course designed to teach people the basics of the stock market and increase their understanding of savings-investment.
This short term course has been prepared in collaboration with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM)It will prove beneficial for people to learn the basics of security market and increase financial literacy. This is an online course. There is no need to run around or attend physical classes for this. You don’t even have to spend money for this. This course is completely free. As for the study material, it is available for free on the NISM website. After enrollment, you get two books as study material – Financial Education and Securities Market.

Who can apply
There is no age limit and educational qualification required for this course. That is, any person of any age can appear in this exam.
Keep these documents with you before applying
Before applying, keep a scanned copy of documents like Aadhar card, passport, photo, PAN card and address proof in JPEG or JPG format in your phone or other device. While registering for short term certificate course, you will need a current mobile number and active email ID. Actually, OTPs will be sent on both of these for verification. Keep in mind that the profile will be generated on the NISM website with the help of personal details and photo, PAN card and address proof scan copy. After this, the profile will be reviewed by NISM in the next 3 working days. NISM will approve your profile. After that you will be able to enroll for the exam / CPE / eCPE. How to register or create a profile
First of all visit the official website of NISM https://www.nism.ac.in/.
Now click on the certifications section appearing on the screen.
Now click on the certification examination subsection shown below
A list of all the exams will be visible on the left side of the screen under SEBI Investor Certification Examination or in the center of the screen under NISM Certification Examinations. Click on the SEBI Investor Certification Exam link among them.

Now create your profile by clicking on the Register for certification exam link visible on the right side.
To create a profile, fill in details like email ID, password, name, father’s name, date of birth, gender, PAN card details, photo and scanned copy of PAN card, Aadhaar number, address proof like driving license, Aadhaar, passport, voter card or soft copy of any one of the utility bill (electricity, water, gas or postpaid mobile bill), educational qualification (from class 1 to higher education) and finally enter the captcha code and tick the box to confirm the authenticity of all the details filled and click on the submit button.
,Note : If you are facing any problem while uploading the soft copy of photo, PAN card or address proof, then remember that as soon as you select and upload a soft copy of less than 1MB size from your device, the photo, PAN card or address proof will start appearing on the screen. Now it has to be cropped. Take the pointer on the uploaded photo, PAN card or address proof and mark the required area with the circular and click on the crop image appearing on the right side of the screen. Now proceed further by clicking on the submit button below.)
Now a link will be sent to the registered email ID for verification. You will get it in your email inbox or spam. Open it and verify by clicking on the Click here link.
Now all your details will be reviewed by NISM and your profile will be approved in the next 3 working days.
After the profile is approved, you will be able to enroll for SEBI Investor Certification Exam. For this, you will have to click on Enroll Online/Profile Login for Certification Exam appearing just below Register for certification exam.
You will have to log in with your email ID and password and open your profile. Now you can enroll for the exam by clicking on the enrollment option visible on the left side.
While enrolling, you can decide on which day and time you want to take the exam. You can also know the seat availability and when the slot is vacant.

What isExam pattern and when will I get the certificate?
You will be able to take this exam from home. Talking about the timing of the exam, you will be able to choose any stall between 1 pm and 11 pm. After that you will be able to complete the exam comfortably in 1 hour.50 multiple choice questions will be asked in this exam. You will have 60 minutes to solve them.
You will have to score 25 marks to pass. That means if you score 50% marks, you will be entitled to get a certificate from SEBI.You will get the certificate a few days after passing the exam. There is no negative marking in the exam. That means marks will not be deducted for wrong answers.The certificate is valid for 2 years.
If you fail to pass the exam, there will be an opportunity to take the test again. Such candidates will be able to take the exam again after 6 months.

What is NISM?
The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a government institute (public trust) which comes under the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). SEBI laid the foundation of NISM in the year 2006. The purpose of creating NISM is to increase the quality standards in the securities market.
Located at Patalganga in Maharashtra near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the NISM campus is spread over 72 acres. The institute was inaugurated on 24 December 2016 by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The campus offers full-time long term PG programs, short term training programs and faculty development programs for market participants.
