Rashford continued to be removed from the squad for MU’s match against Tottenham in the quarterfinals of the English League Cup by coach Ruben Amorim. This is the second consecutive match that the 27-year-old striker has been removed from the squad, after the derby win over Man City 2-1 on December 15.
Coach Ruben Amorim explained: “Why was Rashford eliminated? Regarding the starting lineup, I chose players who I felt were ready to deal with the demands of playing a competitive match and full of strength”.
Without Rashford, coach Ruben Amorim continues to give confidence to young star Amad Diallo. MU went through a quite dramatic match with Tottenham. After leading 3-0, the “Red Devils” shockingly scored continuously to shorten the score to 2-3 thanks to Zirkzee and Diallo.
However, at the end of the match, mistakes by reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir helped Son Heung-min increase the score to 4-2 for Tottenham. In extra time, veteran midfielder Jonny Evans shortened the score to 3-4 for MU, but could not change the situation in time.
Tottenham qualified for the semi-finals of the League Cup and will face Liverpool, while Arsenal will face Newcastle in the remaining match. The semi-finals of the first and second legs of the Confederation Cup will take place in early January and early February 2025.
Meanwhile, about striker Rashford’s future, coach Ruben Amorim is still vague: “Of course, he is a MU player. Tomorrow (December 21) we will return to practice, and Rashford will be there, Prepare for the next match and you will see the lineup.”
According to the sheet TelegraphMU will put Rashford on the transfer list in early 2025. In the immediate future, there are 4 top clubs in the Saudi Pro League ready to negotiate, besides Al Qadisah Club is also interested. MU wants to say goodbye to Rashford (a player under contract until June 2028) for a fee of about 50 million USD.
Rashford recently spoke out after being repeatedly removed from the squad by coach Ruben Amorim, saying: “Ready for a challenge and a new chapter in his career, after a long time playing for MU.”
