Dr. Julia Tzu offers simple tips to help women improve postpartum hair loss and get through this period more easily as follows:
- Using a volumizing shampoo helps your hair look thicker and fuller.
- When washing your hair, only use conditioner on the ends of your hair. If you use conditioner on the entire length of your hair, the roots may be pulled closer to the scalp and the hair will look thinner and weaker.
- Supplementing biotin helps strengthen each hair strand, but does not have much effect on hair loss or very thin hair.
- Use a hair growth stimulant such as Minoxidil – a spray used to treat moderate hair loss. This over-the-counter topical treatment helps open shrunken hair follicles, prolonging the growth phase and shortening the hair’s shedding phase.
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. Your doctor will separate the platelets from the plasma in your own blood, then inject the plasma into your scalp to help repair blood vessels and promote wound healing.
