Saakashvili will be punished – prime minister

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will serve his full term of imprisonment and the country’s authorities do not intend to amnesty him. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili.

“I declare with full responsibility that Saakashvili will fully serve his term. To date, he has been sentenced to six years in prison. This verdict was delivered by the last resort. Whoever on the planet calls for his release, no one in the government will do it today, ”the prime minister said on the air of the Imedi TV company.

Garibashvili welcomed the position of the country’s president, Salome Zurabishvili, who had previously stated that she would never pardon the third president of Georgia.

Former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili was detained on Friday, October 1. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced this at a briefing.

After being detained, the former president was transferred to a penitentiary institution.

Prior to this, the politician announced that he intends to return home from Ukraine by the October elections to local government bodies.

The Georgian prosecutor’s office accuses Saakashvili under several criminal articles, two of which the former head of state was convicted of.

Over the past eight years, Mikhail Saakashvili has been in exile.
