James Cleverly has been made the Home Minister in place of Suella Braverman, who previously held the post of Foreign Minister.
Jaishankar congratulated Cameron, who had resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Britain in the wake of the ‘Brexit’ (separation from the European Union) referendum in June 2016, on suddenly assuming an important post again.
Jaishankar is in Britain on a five-day official visit. The External Affairs Minister said they discussed a range of topics, including ongoing global conflicts and the Indo-Pacific region, during their bilateral talks at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London.
Jaishankar said in a post on ‘X’, “Delighted to meet British Foreign Minister David Cameron this afternoon on the first day of his tenure. Congratulated him on his appointment. Discussed the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Jaishankar said he also exchanged views with Cameron on the situation in West Asia, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Indo-Pacific region. “Look forward to working with him,” the minister said.
Cameron was the Prime Minister of Britain from 2010 to 2016 and led the Conservative Party from 2005 to 2016.
Jaishankar also met former Prime Minister Tony Blair. He said, “It was nice to meet former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.” We discussed bilateral relations, the situation in West Asia and Africa.
These meetings took place after Jaishankar had discussed tea with Sunak on Sunday at ’10 Downing Street’, the residence and office of the British Prime Minister. Jaishankar had presented Sunak a bat signed by cricket player Virat Kohli and an idol of Lord Ganesha.
