G 24 Hours Digital Bureau: Russian President Vladimir Putin is absent from one international conference after another. He is not coming to India this time either. Russian President will not attend the G20 summit in India. This has been reported by the Kremlin. The G-20 summit will be held on September 9 and 10. Explaining the reason why Putin will not be at this meeting, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian president could not be present at the G20 summit due to some urgent discussions on military matters at that time.

According to a section of the diplomatic circles, the Russian president may address the G20 summit through video conferencing, even if he cannot appear. The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit was held in Johannesburg, South Africa this week. Putin was absent there as well.
Concerned parties, however, say that the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant in Putin’s name a long time ago on charges of war crimes, genocide and infanticide in Ukraine, not military matters. Putin can be arrested because of that warrant. He was absent from BRICS to avoid that arrest.

Most importantly, Putin has not crossed the border of the former Soviet Union since the start of the war with Ukraine in February 2022. He also canceled his plans to go to the G-20 summit in Bali, Indonesia last November. Putin last attended a meeting in 2019. That was also the G-20 meeting. The G-20 Summit was held in Osaka, Japan.
