Russia-Ukraine War: US diplomat expelled in Moscow, declares ‘Persona non grata’

Own report: Russia has expelled several US diplomats from the US Embassy in Moscow and declared them “personal non grata.” This was reported by a spokesman for the State Department. The U.S. embassy in Moscow on Wednesday received a list of its diplomats who had been declared “personal non grata.”

The incident comes days after the United States expelled Russian workers from the United Nations. Earlier this month, the United States expelled 12 Russian diplomats from Russia’s UN mission in New York for national security reasons. They later announced that they would expel another Russian man, described as a spy.

Russia, meanwhile, has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s intelligence have been made more than once.

Russia has said in a statement that “the United States has strongly stated that any hostile action by the United States against Russia will result in a final and equal response.”

The move comes as the United States and its allies impose more sanctions on Russia over its aggression against Ukraine.

A State Department spokesman said: “We can confirm that the US embassy received a list of diplomats from the Russian Foreign Ministry on March 23 declaring them ‘Persona non grata’.”

“This is Russia’s latest helpless and unproductive move in our bilateral relations … It is important that we have more diplomats now than ever before to facilitate communication between our governments,” he said.

However, it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
