A council on Ukraine’s national security has said that the Russian military is preparing for chemical attacks. Russian channels are telling their viewers daily about mythical laboratories that allegedly make chemical weapons in Ukraine. We emphasize that there is no such laboratory in Ukraine. Earlier, experts from the Russian Armed Forces uncovered new evidence of the involvement of the US Defense Department in the development of biological weapons in Ukraine. Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine also claimed to have destroyed a Russian ship – Orsk – in the port city of Mariupol. The ship was delivering weapons to Russian soldiers present in Mariupol.
What is a phosphorus bomb?
Phosphorus bombs are considered very dangerous. It directly harms the human body in two ways. First, the body burns. Second, if its smoke is inhaled, it makes you sick. At the same time, if its particles come in contact with the body, then it gives wounds. Usually white phosphorus is used in war. When it mixes with oxygen, it starts burning. This produces deep smoke.
Why is it used?
White phosphorus is usually used in open areas. Since it emits deep smoke, the movement of the army is not visible to anyone. Infrared vision equipment also does not work. Weapon tracking systems also fail. In this way the army can be protected from the attack of anti-tank guided missiles.
Is White Phosphorus Banned?
White phosphorus is not included in the definition of chemical weapons, but the UN has kept it in the category of banned weapons. Although its use in open areas is not illegal under international law, but its use is banned in residential areas.
Has it ever been used before?
White phosphorus is believed to have been first used as a weapon by Irish nationalists in the 19th century. Similarly, it was widely used during the first and second world wars as well.
