The export of tomatoes from Turkey in January-September 2021 increased by almost 17 percent compared to the same period last year – up to $ 264 million 771 thousand.
As reported by the Anadolu agency with reference to the Association of Exporters of Southeastern Anatolia, Turkish tomatoes were added to the shelves of 51 countries last year. Revenues amounted to 313 million 405 thousand dollars.
In January-September 2020, the export of tomatoes from Turkey amounted to $ 226 million 87 thousand.
Since the beginning of 2021, Turkish tomatoes have hit the shelves of 53 countries.
Russia remains the main importer of tomatoes from Turkey.
In January-September, Turkey exported tomatoes to Russia in the amount of 47 million 652 thousand dollars.
This is followed by Romania (46 million 69 thousand dollars) and Ukraine (31 million 101 thousand dollars).
Most of the tomatoes were exported from Antalya – in the amount of 100 million 383 thousand dollars.
This is followed by Hatay (49 million 630 thousand dollars) and Mersin (19 million 481 thousand dollars).
The President of the Association of Investors and Producers of Greenhouse Farms, Myuslum Yanmaz, expressed confidence that by the end of the year, the export of tomatoes from Turkey will exceed $ 300 million.
“After the embargo on tomatoes amid the crisis with the downed Russian plane, Turkey diversified the sales markets for these products in Europe. At the same time, the export of tomatoes to the Middle East increased. Thanks to exports to Romania and Ukraine, a new trade network has been formed, which affected the export figures, ”he said.
According to Yanmaz, the bulk of the tomato export basket from Turkey is bunched tomatoes.
“There is interest in bunches of tomatoes both in the domestic and foreign markets,” he added.
