Russia, Iran advocate for nuclear deal in its original and balanced form

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday pleaded for the nuclear deal in its original and balanced form, endorsed by all member countries of the Security Council of the United Nations. ‘UN.

By way of a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that Lavrov and Abdollahian expressed, during a telephone interview, their hope that the talks in Vienna would succeed in reviving the nuclear agreement.

Six rounds of negotiations took place between Iran and the major international powers, in Vienna between April and June, in an attempt to revive the nuclear deal.

The Europeans play the role of mediator in these talks.

The negotiations aim to bring the United States back into the nuclear deal and force Iran to fully respect its own international commitments under the 2015 accord.

In May 2018, Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and the 5 + 1 group, which includes Russia, the United Kingdom, China, the United States, France and the Germany, and imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.

Negotiations were suspended in Vienna, following the victory of Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi in the elections of June 18, and should resume on November 29, 2021.
