Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on December 28 that it had foiled terrorist attack plots against a senior officer at the Ministry of Defense and a military blogger reporting on a special military operation in Moscow. Ukraine, according to TASS.
A Russian working under the orders of Ukrainian military intelligence was arrested for planning an attack. “According to instructions from a manager, the attacker took an improvised explosive device from a location in the Moscow Region with an explosive power equivalent to about 1.5 kg of TNT, disguised as a portable speaker. He spy on the whereabouts of the targets in order to detonate the bomb remotely,” the FSB said. Russian authorities used a robot to recover the bomb.
According to the initial plan, the subject would place an explosive device under the car of a famous military blogger or at the target’s gate. However, the suspect fell ill and the plan was canceled. After that, this person received orders to use the bomb to assassinate a high-ranking military officer but was arrested while stalking the target.
Russia foiled a series of plots to assassinate military officers
The suspect contacted an employee of the General Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine via the Telegram application. The subject is cooperating with the investigation agency.
Ukraine has not commented on the above information.
On December 26, the FSB also announced the destruction of plots to assassinate high-ranking military officials with homemade explosive devices disguised as backup battery chargers and file folders.
On December 17, General Igor Kirillov of Russia’s agency for preventing radiological, chemical and biological weapons was assassinated outside his Moscow apartment in a car bomb attack by Ukrainian intelligence, according to Reuters.
