The BCCI has announced an 18-member Test team for the tour of South Africa. Team India will play a series of 3 Tests and 3 ODIs on this tour. Virat Kohli has been removed from the captaincy of the ODI team and the national selection committee has named Rohit Sharma as the new captain till the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit will now be the captain of Team India in both T20 and ODI. Rohit has also been made the vice-captain of the Test team in place of Ajinkya Rahane.
Injured all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and opener Shubman Gill are out of the team while pacer Ishant Sharma managed to save a place despite his poor form. Hanuma Vihari has returned to the Test team. Hanuma is currently with the India A team in South Africa. The Andhra Pradesh batsman has shown excellent form so far in the ongoing South Africa tour. Hanuman has scored three consecutive half-centuries.
The tour will begin with the Boxing Day Test. The first Test match will be played from 26 December which was earlier to be held from 17 December. The first Test match of the series will be played at Centurion’s SuperSport Park, while the second and third Test matches will be played at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The second Test match of the series will be played from 3 to 7 January 2022, while the third and last Test will be held from 11 to 15 January. After this a 3-match ODI series will be played. The ODI series will be held from January 19 to 23. The first two ODIs of the series will be played in Paarl while the third and last ODI will be played in Cape Town.
