Delhi Capitals used their “right to match” card, but when Lucknow made a record bid of Rs 27 crore for Pant, Delhi backed out. In this way, Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player and captain in IPL history.
Handing over the captaincy to Pant, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka said, “Rishabh Pant is a born captain. According to me, he will be one of the best captains of IPL in the coming times. After ten-twelve years, people will also take Rishabh’s name along with Dhoni and Rohit.”
After becoming the captain, Rishabh Pant said, “I will work on MS Dhoni’s formula. Mahi Bhai says, ‘Focus on the process, results will come automatically.’ I will also work with this philosophy.”

Rishabh Pant was a part of Delhi Capitals since 2016 and became the captain of the team in 2021. Under his leadership the team traveled till the playoffs. Pant has scored 3284 runs in 110 IPL matches at an average of 35.31, which includes one century and 18 half-centuries. But now for the first time he will represent a team outside Delhi.
