Republicans step up accusations that Covid-19 originated in Wuhan lab

The report says there is “abundant evidence” that scientists from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) have engineered the coronavirus to infect humans, and that the action could be concealed.
The report urges the US Congress to open an investigation into the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has killed more than 4.4 million people worldwide.

China has repeatedly denied allegations that a genetically modified corona virus leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan City, where the first Covid-19 infection was discovered in 2019. This hypothesis until has not yet been proven. Beijing also denied the allegations of withholding information.
Until now, most scientists believed that the Covid-19 pandemic was caused by an animal virus capable of being transmitted to humans at a seafood market in Wuhan.
“We believe that there is ample evidence to demonstrate that the virus was leaked from the WIV prior to September 12, 2019,” the Republican report said.

The Republican report urges the US congress to investigate and clarify the origin of Covid-19.

The report cited what is believed to be the latest and lesser-known information on safety procedures at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, including a proposal to spend $1.5 million in July 2019 to overhaul of the hazardous waste treatment system, even though it’s only been installed for less than 2 years.

In April, America’s highest intelligence agency said it agreed with the scientific community’s view that the virus was not man-made or intentionally genetically modified.

US President Joe Biden in May asked the country’s intelligence agencies to speed up tracing the source of the virus and report back after 90 days.
A source familiar with current intelligence assessments said the US intelligence community has yet to draw any conclusions as to whether the coronavirus originated in animals or from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
