Ahead of the crucial meeting of the G7 group, French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Western countries to exempt the supply of raw materials used to make vaccines to some other countries including India. Macron said that such steps are necessary to manufacture the vaccines needed by the continent of Africa, including these countries.
In a press conference in Paris, Emmanuel Macron also supported the proposal presented by India and South Africa in the WTO, which sought the immediate suspension of the patent related to Covid-19.
Macron said, “As we know, exports of raw materials used in vaccine production have been banned by some member countries of the G7, which is affecting production in some countries. I will mention here an example from India. would like to do.”
Macron further said, “Production has come to a halt due to the imposition of export restrictions on raw materials used in vaccine production by some G7 economies in India, and especially the Serum Institute of India.”
Macron said that France and South Africa will present proposals on exemptions on intellectual property rights at the G7 summit. These patents should not become an obstacle in the way of vaccine production.
Let us tell you that the summit between G-7 members is going to be held in the British resort of Cornwell from 11 to 13 June. The G-7 includes France, Germany, Japan, USA, UK, Italy and Canada. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate online in the outreach session on June 12 and June 13.
