Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan died in Delhi on Thursday. He was 74 years old. He was ill for the last few days and was admitted to Escort Hospital in Delhi. His son Chirag Paswan tweeted and informed about this.
Chirag Paswan in a tweet wrote “Papa… Now you are not in this world but I know you are always with me wherever you are. Miss you Papa.”
Ram Vilas Paswan, who had undergone heart surgery a few days ago, was hospitalized for the past nearly a month. He had heart surgery on the night of 2 October in AIIMS. This was Paswan’s second heart surgery. He had also had a bypass surgery earlier.
- Ram Vilas Paswan was born on 5 July 1946 in a poor and dalit family in Khagaria district of Bihar.
- He did his MA from Bundelkhand University Jhansi and LLB from Patna University.
- For the first time in 1969, Paswan was elected as the candidate of the United Socialist Party in the Rajya Sabha elections of Bihar.
- In 1977, Paswan was elected as the candidate of the Janata Party in the sixth Lok Sabha.
- Paswan won for the second time in the 1982 Lok Sabha elections.
- He formed the Dalit Army in 1983 and was elected for the third time in the Ninth Lok Sabha in 1989.
- He was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha in 1996.
- In 2000 Paswan split from Janata Dal United and formed the Lok Jan Shakti Party.
- He then joined the UPA government and became Chemicals and Food Minister and Steel Minister.
- Paswan won the Lok Sabha elections in 2004, but lost in 2009.
- He was also victorious in the twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth Lok Sabha.
- In August 2010, he was elected a member of the Bihar Rajya Sabha and was made a member of the Committee on Personnel and Pension Affairs and Rural Development.
