‘Rahul did well as captain’; Rahul Dravid backs player after ODI series defeat

  • Dravid says Rahul led India well
  • Gradually Rahul will become a better captain
  • India lost the ODI series 3-0 to South Africa

India lost the Test series 2-1 to South Africa and were whitewashed 3-0 in the subsequent ODI series. KL Rahul, who captained the team in one of the Tests, captained the team in ODIs. The comments in the cricket world are that Rahul was a pathetic failure in the captaincy that came to him in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

Rahul’s poor captaincy is the main reason why India have lost all three ODIs. Former players and others have pointed out that Rahul made mistakes in team selection and decisions made on the field. However, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has come out in support of Rahul despite criticism from all quarters.

According to Dravid, Rahul did a great job as captain in the series against South Africa. The Indian coach, who says Rahul will gradually become a better captain, added that it was only Rahul’s beginning time as a captain and that he had done a decent job there.

“He (Rahul) has done well (as captain). It’s not a pleasant ending to a series of defeats. But he’s just starting, and I think he’s done a decent job. Asked how he sees Rahul as a captain, Rahul Dravid said, “No.”

At the same time, Dravid said that the absence of their key all-rounders was a setback for India in the series and that it had greatly affected the team combination. He added that players in 6th, 7th and 8th positions were not available in the series and that the team will change when they return.

Meanwhile, after losing the ODI series against South Africa, Team India’s next Test will be against the West Indies. The West Indies will tour India early next month. The three-match ODI and three-T20 series starts on February 6.
