‘Pujara’s performance at Lord’s was foolish’; Former Pakistan captain with criticism

  • Did the defensive innings falter?
  • He scored 45 off 206 balls
  • Salman Butt with criticism

On the fourth day of the Lord’s Test, Cheteshwar Pujara played in his own style. He scored 45 off 206 balls. Even India’s top scorer Ajinkya Rahane hit 61 off 146 balls. It was the alliance between the two that saved India from a major collapse. But Pujara’s slow innings has drawn criticism from many quarters.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt said Pujara should have scored at least 70 runs off more than 200 balls. “It’s a good strategy to play defensively when you lose three wickets in the beginning. If you had lost more wickets, the match would have been abandoned.

An experienced batsman like Pujara could not score even 70 runs at the crease for so long. Butt also reminded that scoring more runs was crucial to keep England on the defensive.
