There will be a public holiday in Delhi on the day of polling on 5 February. After the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, its official notification was issued on Monday. Under this order, there will be a holiday in government, non-government, private offices and other institutions, so that employees can exercise their franchise.
Delhi business organizations have also decided to close their establishments on Wednesday, so that shopkeepers and their employees can also vote.
More than 150 paramilitary forces companies and more than 30,000 policemen will be deployed in Delhi to ensure peaceful voting. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) and in -charge of Election Cell Devesh Chandra Srivastava said that the Delhi Police is fully committed to conducting fair and peaceful elections. Around 3,000 polling stations have been declared sensitive. Drone cameras will be used at these places and additional police forces will be deployed. In addition, the quick response team (QRT) will also be kept ready to take immediate action in any emergency.
According to Delhi Police, a report of violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been filed in more than 1,000 cases before the election on 5 February. Since the implementation of MCC on 7 January, 33,434 people have been arrested under various legal sections as of 2 February, including cases of violations of the Excise Act.
The security forces are fully ready to make the Delhi elections fair and peaceful and the administration has appealed to the citizens to participate extensively in the democratic process.
