In the last week, pro-Palestine protests have multiplied on university campuses in the United States. What began with the arrest of a hundred protesters at Columbia University has now spread to other educational centers such as Yale and MIT.
Recent confrontations between protesting students and law enforcement have opened a debate on campuses about the balance between security and freedom of expression. Columbia University, for example, has a long history of student movements, most famously in 1968 when hundreds of students occupied five campus buildings to demonstrate against the Vietnam War.
