A funeral ceremony was held for Uçma, who died in the hospital where he was treated, at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology Mosque after the noon prayer.
In addition to Uçma’s family, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, Vice President Fuat Oktay, 11th President Abdullah Gül, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu, AK Party Deputy Chairman Numan Kurtulmuş, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın, former Parliament Speakers İsmail Kahraman and İsmet Yılmaz.
Many deputies, representatives of political parties and mayors also took part in the ceremony.
While Uçma’s family was accepting condolences in the courtyard of the mosque, President Erdoğan went to his relatives and conveyed his condolences. Head of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş led the funeral prayer.
Speaking at the head of Uçma’s body after the funeral prayer, Erdoğan said, “My brother İsmet Uçma, who is currently in trouble and we will bid farewell to our Lord. As the Uçma family, we have an offensive brotherhood with my brother Kemal for nearly 40 years. We have a close fraternity with İsmet as well. We have always walked this path hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, never deviating from our friendship.” he said.
Stating that İsmet Uçma walked shoulder to shoulder on this road as a brother who pointed out the works that mark rights and truth with Sign Publications, as well as his intellectual and intellectual life, Erdoğan continued his words as follows:
“He became our true companion on the road and the cause, and in our friendship on this path, may God bring us together under his banner, inshallah, with the name of Liva-ul hamd of his beloved Habib. At this moment, we bid him farewell to the journey of righteousness. I wish patience to his entire family. I wish patience to our community. May my Lord be our helper. I hope we will be together, too.”
President of Religious Affairs, Erbaş, in his bibliography speech, stated that they met İsmet Uçma at Marmara University Faculty of Theology and said they bid farewell from here, saying, “When I was coming to Istanbul to school, my brother named him after him, in case he would take care of you. He was a student here two years before us. We came, we met. Indeed, he acted as a big brother to us. When I see him, I think of the verse of Efela tetefekkerun in the Quran. “Do you ever think about it? He would have a book. This book guided him to supply books to young people and to all people in the future. He founded a very important publishing house like Sign Publications. Now I think he aimed to point out the truth, so he named it.” he said.
Uçma’s body was taken to Karacaahmet Cemetery to be buried after the ceremony.
Born on January 1, 1955 in Ordu Fatsa, İsmet Uçma graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Theology. Uçma, who received his master’s degree with his study “The Concept of Intercession in the Qur’an and Sunnah” in the Department of Kalam and Philosophy at the same faculty, completed his doctorate with his study “Ahilik as a Social Policy Institution” in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations of the Faculty of Economics of Istanbul University.
While Uçma was teaching at a private school for a while, she started her publishing career as an editor at Bir Publishing in 1983.
While Uçma founded Sign Publications in 1986 and Şehir Yayınları in 2000, he was elected as a Member of the Istanbul Provincial Assembly between 1994-1997.
Being a Founding Member of the AK Party, Uçma served in the parliament as a member of parliament for the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th terms.
Having undertaken different duties in organizations such as United Distribution, Press and Publishing Union, Writers Union of Turkey, NEŞKO, İTO Press and Publishing Commission, ÜSEV, Uçma was awarded the “Publisher of the Year” award by the Turkish Writers Union in 1991.
