Prime Minister Housing Scheme (PMAY) – Urban 2.0 Scheme :The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Urban Housing Scheme (PMAY-U 2.0). The aim of this scheme is to build 1 crore houses in the next five years with special focus on equality among different sections of the population living in urban areas of the country. In the full budget of the year 2024, the government had announced to build 1 crore houses in the next 5 years under the PM Housing Scheme in urban areas, which has now been approved by the Cabinet as well. What is PMAY-U 2.0?
PMAY-U 2.0 aims to provide financial assistance to middle-income group and urban poor families to build, purchase or rent affordable houses in urban areas. According to the official website of PM India (www.pmindia.gov.in), this product is in line with the Government of India’s goal of improving the quality of life of every citizen by providing them with all-weather pucca houses.

PMAY-U: Who will get the house?
According to the PM India website, special attention will be given to marginalized groups including slum dwellers, SC-ST, minorities, widows, differently-abled people and other disadvantaged sections of society. Apart from this, groups like sanitation workers, street vendors, artisans, Anganwadi workers and people living in slums and slums will receive focused support under this scheme.

PMAY-U: Who will get the benefit of the scheme
The PMAY-U 2.0 scheme is open to families belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) sectors who do not have a pucca house anywhere in the country. The income criteria for eligibility are as follows.
EWS families: Annual income up to Rs 3 lakh.
LIG families: Annual income Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
MIG families: Annual income Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.
