Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana:Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) or PM Rural Housing Scheme, 2 crore more concrete houses are to be built in rural areas. During the full budget speech for the year 2024, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said in Parliament that 2 crore houses will be built in the next 5 years under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-Gramin). The aim of this scheme run by the central government is to provide concrete houses to crores of poor families of the country. Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance for the construction of concrete houses featuring all the basic amenities like electricity supply and sanitation. All those families who do not have a house or are currently living in a kutcha or dilapidated house in the rural areas of India will be able to apply for the PM Rural Housing Scheme.
On August 9 this month, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Rural Development Department for the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G) during the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. Under this proposal, financial assistance of Rs 2 crore more is to be provided for building a concrete house on the existing unit assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh in the plains and Rs 1.30 lakh in the states of the North-East region and the hilly states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The details of the approval given by the Cabinet of the Central Government headed by PM Modi are as follows.
2 crore more concrete houses are to be built with basic amenities from April 2024 to March 2029. These houses are to be given the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G) by providing financial assistance to eligible poor families coming under Awas Plus 2018 list and Socio Economic Caste Census SECC 2011 Wait List (PWL) after updating them.
These houses are to be built in the next 5 years (from financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29) at a total cost of Rs 3,06,137 crore. This includes a central share of Rs 2,05,856 crore and a state share of Rs 1,00,281 crore.
Continuation of the scheme beyond March, 2026 after evaluation of PMAY-G by NITI Aayog and re-evaluation of the scheme by EFC.
Updating the Awas Plus list to identify eligible rural families using revised criteria.
The unit cost of assistance to beneficiaries will continue at the existing rates of Rs 1.20 lakh in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in North Eastern Region/Hill States.
The Administration Fund will be 2% of the Programme Fund, with the division of Administration Fund being 1.70% to be released to States/UTs and 0.30% to be retained at the Central level.
Completion of incomplete houses of the previous phase of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana by March 31, 2024 during the financial year 2024-25 as per the current rates.

Benefits
The remaining 35 lakh houses not completed by 31 March 2024 will be completed to achieve the cumulative target of 2.95 crore houses of the previous phase.
Now, 2 crore more houses will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana during the next 5 years from FY 2024-2029 to meet the housing requirement in the last few years. About 10 crore people are expected to benefit from the construction of 2 crore more houses.
This approval will facilitate all homeless and kutcha house dwellers to build good quality safe pucca houses with all basic amenities. This will ensure safety, hygiene and social inclusion of the eligible beneficiaries.
To achieve the objective of pucca house for all in rural areas, Government of India launched Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G) from April 2016 with the target to construct 2.95 crore houses with basic amenities in a phased manner by March 2024.
