PM Modi US Visit: Morrison addresses Modi as a friend of Australia

Own report: After meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the two had a detailed and fruitful discussion.

After the meeting with Narendra Modi, Scott Morrison tweeted, “Nice to meet my good friend and a great friend of Australia, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi”. He said the two countries would work to further enhance their friendship. Earlier, Scott Morrison and Narendra Modi had a phone conversation to review the strategic relationship between the two countries.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said the two countries discussed issues of regional and international importance. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is reported to have raised the issue of AUKUS in a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Problems between Australia and France have intensified since the formation of AUKUS. The French government has expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance and canceled a meeting on Friday morning. The foreign ministers of Australia and India were scheduled to attend the meeting.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Prime Minister Scott Morrison had detailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “argument” behind the AUKUS alliance. According to the Indian External Affairs Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Scott Morrison reviewed the Bilateral Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).
